Dear Members of ICG,

GROSS FAILURE OF R2P AND THE HELPLESSNESS OF THE ICG

The current Humanitarian Catastrophe of immense proportions unfolding in Northern Sri Lanka has clearly demonstrated that R2P has almost completely failed. It has been proved that it is merely a theory and it couldn't easily be implemented.

Already over 7000 innocent civilians including thousands of women and children have been slaughtered in cold blood within a short span of 12 weeks! This is not something that was unforeseen. The international community and the world at large were forewarned of this developing catastrophe months before it started. No action was taken to stop this carnage! Is it to be taken that R2P is only applicable selectively or in specific circumstances?

As this message reaches you, more and more civilians are continuing to perish by the day.
It should now be clear to you that the only reason the Tamil diaspora stood by the freedom struggle is that we were well aware that there is nobody else on Earth who will save the Tamils other than Tamils themselves. Your repeated call to the Tamil diaspora to stop supporting the armed struggle for freedom now sounds hollow!

The Tamil Diaspora always feared that what happened in Rwanda, Darfur and Srebenica will be repeated in Sri Lanka if the Tamils don't have means to protect themselves and now we have been proven right.

We wish to urge you that it is not too late for you to accept that only a total liberation of the Nation of Tamil Eelam will be a salvation to the Tamils in Sri Lanka as was the case of East Timor.

We sincerely hope that you will change your stand following this complete failure of R2P.
