Click To Email campaign - Appeal to World Leaders - release of Dr. Shanmugarajah, Dr. Varatharajah and Dr Sathiyamoorthy
Dear President Obama, Prime Minister Gordon Brown, President Sarkozy, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd,
Thank you for the concerns that your governments and UN had raised on the Sri Lankan conflict, grave human rights violations and war crimes that have taken place and taking place now.
While Sri Lankan Military is busy "cleaning up" evidences of war crimes - mass massacres of civilians, relentless bombardment of hospitals (Human Rights Watch has documented more than 30 attacks), merciless usage of heavy weapons on a starving refugee population, killings of surrendered LTTE officials and wounded cadres,
We urge the following:
** Please immediately demand the release of Dr. Shanmugarajah, Dr. Varatharajah and Dr Sathiyamoorthy along with 12 ICRC workers who tirelessly served the wounded civilians including hundreds of children with the very minimal medical help and medicines and under continuous bombardment.
** Please demand that UN, ICRC and INGOS have immediate access to ALL "IDP transit camps" where rape, torture, killings and disappearances are being reported.
** Please ensure thorough inquiry into war crimes.
** Please withhold IMF funds to Sri Lanka until the UN, ICRC and INGOs are give access into ALL camps, "detention centres" and "screening centres".
** Please withhold IMF funds to Sri Lanka until they put forward a political solution that will address the root causes of this ethnic conflict, and ensure Tamils can live with peace and dignity in their traditional regions.
Sri Lanka now claims that there are more than 300,000 "liberated" civilians in the barbed wire fenced military operated camps. The same government claimed that there were only 70,000 civilians in the start of the offensive thus restricting the amount of food, medicine and other basic needs to the Tamil population.
Lies and more lies, deception and false information, elimination of the voices of truth has been the name of the war game that Sri Lanka has played. Can we afford to let Sri Lanka "win" ?
The war crimes in Sri Lanka are a shame to humanity and a threat to Democratic values and ideals if Sri Lanka goes unpunished. The long oppressed Tamils must be ensured civil rights and justice.
Yours truly,
